  1. Start along the path south with John Merricks Lake to the right and the hedge and the canal to the left. Bear right away from the canal along the bottom of the lake; keep direction over the parking area and the road. Pass the metal gate and continue through the kissing gate to the next wooden gate.
  2. Turn left on the grass track between the small lake and the river, go through the stile and follow the wide tarmac path to the right around the edge of the of the larger King Lear’s lake. Just past the tatty King Lear Group turn right over a bridge.
  3. Keep on the tarmac path to the right and go straight on over the stiles and footbridge to signposted Wanlip. From the next double stile bear left over the field to the next stile topped here with red; continue between the fence and the dyke. Bear left in the corner through two stiles and turn right up the tarmac slope into the houses of Wanlip. At the first junction turn left and then right at the T-Junction; bear left along Fillingate parallel with the A46.
  4. Take the road to the right through the underpass and double back to the right. At the T-junction, turn left, signposted Severn Trent Water and keep
direction along the bridleway ahead. Approaching the A6 turn right at a signpost with a wire fence to the right. Turn left along the bank above the river, go through the gap in the corner by the marker post and continue on the field edge back to the foot of the A6 embankment.
  5. Bear right on the hardcore road and step over the stile; turn right across the bridge over the River Soar and the canal past Cossington Lock. Follow this roadside path for half a mile to the T-junction for Cossington.
  6. At the signpost just past the junction, turn right on the path between the lake and the hedge. Keep direction through two gates and follow the edge of the next lake left; turn left along the canal towpath. Turn right over the concrete footbridge and go under Hill’s Bridge (20), continue on the towpath under the A46 to the bridge at the Hope and Anchor pub, turn right over the bridge back to the car park and your vehicle.
