Mountsorrel Revival
From classroom visits to a day out at Mountsorrel Revival, the team has been busy bringing the quarry to local communities.
The team at Mountsorrel Quarry has spent the summer getting out and about ā introducing local children to the world of quarrying and supporting some of the areaās biggest events.
STEPPING INTO THE CLASSROOMā¦
Hard hats were swapped for whiteboards as members of the Mountsorrel Quarry team headed to Christ Church & Saint Peterās CofE Primary School to run a series of lessons for Year 3 pupils.
Pupils got hands-on with materials straight from the quarry ā sand, granite, pebbles ā and discovered how the stone beneath their feet ends up in the roads and railways they use every day. Along the way, they heard what quarry life is really like, from the people who live it, and why safety comes first in everything the team does.
⦠AND INTO THE QUARRY WITH LOCAL PUPILS
Year 5 pupils from St Bartholomewās School in Quorn were given the chance to see behind the scenes at a series of quarry visits, following the journey of the stone from the quarry face to the lab where itās tested for quality.
Unsurprisingly, it was the machines that stole the show. But the visit also gave pupils a glimpse of something less expected: a working quarry thatās also a haven for wildlife, from birds of prey to rare plant species that have made it their home.
SUPPORTING THE QUORN MIDSUMMER FETE
Tarmac was proud to sponsor this yearās Quorn Midsummer Fete. The grant helped fund prizes and entertainment on the day, as well as a donation to the local cadet forces, who put in sterling work helping organisers before, during and after the event.
With glorious weather adding to the occasion, the fete was a great success ā and it was fantastic to see the Tarmac name out in the community, supporting an event that brings the village together.
OUT AND ABOUT AT MOUNTSORREL REVIVAL
The teamās community calendar didnāt stop when the school term ended. In August, we had a stall at Mountsorrel Revival ā the villageās biggest annual event ā meeting residents and visitors face-to-face throughout the day.
Alongside banners charting the siteās history, its jobs and the local initiatives weāre proud to support, families could try their hand at a range of activities for children, including a VR simulator putting people right in the middle of quarry life, all without leaving the village green.
The Revival brings thousands of people into Mountsorrel each year, and itās a chance for the team to have informal conversations with residents, answer their questions, and show a different side to the site beyond our operations. Weāre proud to sponsor the event and look forward to it again next year.
