My Summer and My Local Plan
With riots across our country, it has not been the easiest summer. Yet I was reminded of fundamental decency of the British people every me I saw communities come together to clear up after the violence.
I am grateful to the police for swiftly arresting and then prosecuting the rioters. No ifs, no buts, no exceptions, if you commit violence or encourage others to do so, then you will be punished.
Locally, there was no violence. That is a testament to the strength of our community where our different backgrounds come together to form a rich, common culture.
Looking ahead, I have spent part of the summer planning how I will achieve the priories we set out in the general election. These priories are:
- Bringing (Green) investment here to get wages rising
- Flood protection for our homes
- Reducing crime and antisocial behaviour
- Better access to your GP
- Better bus services
More information on how we will achieve this can be found on my Facebook page. I’ll also provide weekly newsletter updates that you can receive by signing up at https://jeevunsandher.mp/newslettersignup
Over the summer, I’ve also been getting my office set up and hiring people. MPs start with no staff and an overflowing inbox. To begin with, I chose to focus all my resources on urgent casework. Where people were, for example, at immediate risk of harm.
With new staff joining my constituency office and the most serious requests for help being addressed, I am now better placed to serve you. I have started holding surgeries and will be holding them across the constituency. We will also be holding more informal coffee mornings across the constituency so I get the chance to listen to you about what is important to you.
As always, if I can help or you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at: jeevun.sandher.mp@parliament.uk.
I’m going to close with a correction. In my last article, I wrote, “these are the most difficult times this nation has ever known.” I should have written, “since the Second World War.” I’m happy to admit my mistake.
In Service,
Jeevun Sandher MP
