I know that the recent ๏ฌooding across Loughborough, Sileby, Quorn and Barrow, driven by the highest level of rainfall ever recorded in the county, has had a
huge impact on residents, many of whom have asked for my help in dealing with the after-ยญe๏ฌects and accessing the right support. My team and I worked hard to support everyone who contacted us. As part of our work, we have been in direct contact with the Environment Agency, Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council on a range of issues including securing emergency accommodation, food, heating, furniture and ๏ฌnancial support, clearing debris and future ๏ฌood mitigation measures.
I would also like to make residents who are on low incomes aware that they could bene๏ฌt from a ยฃ150 rebate on their energy bills, under the Warm Home Discount. However, they will need to act quickly to get the support before this yearโs scheme closes.
The help is available to over 3 million households across Great Britain, with many receiving the discount automatically. However, some customers in England and Wales have been sent a letter asking them to con๏ฌrm details by calling the Warm Home Discount Helpline, so they can check their eligibility and get the rebate. So, if you have received a letter, you will need to call the hotline by 29th of February. Their telephone number is 0800 030 9322.

The scheme forms part of measures to reduce costs for families and put more money in their pockets. It targets support to protect those most at risk of fuel poverty this winter, following a signi๏ฌcant drop in energy prices since their peak last year and the government delivering on its pledge to halve in๏ฌa๔on โ which is now at a 2ยญ year low of 4%. However, I recognise that this is not far enough, and I will support the Prime Ministerโs pledge to continue to reduce it.
