Hearing loss is often gradual, invisible, and easy to ignore. Many people don’t realise it’s happening or simply adapt to the changes without recognising the signs. As a result, symptoms are often normalised, and it is frequently friends and family who notice the difference first.
Research shows that adults typically wait 7 to 10 years after first noticing hearing loss before seeking help. That’s years of missed conversations, missed moments and unnecessary struggle.
BIHIMA, the British Irish Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association has launched the Hearing Loss Red Flags campaign to bring to life the everyday moments that often go unnoticed. Things like turning the TV up a little bit louder. Asking people to repeat themselves. Finding noisy rooms exhausting. Nodding along in conversations you can’t follow. These could all be early warning signs of hearing loss. If this resonates with you, the first step is simple, book yourself a hearing test today.
