North’s of Rothley

North’s is a family-run deli expertly curated by owner David North and his team.
The selection of fascinating food and drink is a joy, with a focus on taste and quality rather than packaging. North’s offers a wide range of products, including local and continental cheeses, charcuterie, freshly baked pies and sausage rolls, locally baked bread, fresh fruit, vegetables and an impressive wine selection.
The Coffee shop is the latest addition to the popular business, which dates back to 1946, when it was opened by Eric North. It is still run by Eric’s family, with his son David, now 82, working in the shop six days a week, and sharing his food and drink knowledge with the customers.
David works alongside his patisserie chef son, Dominic, and Dominic’s wife, Jules. This lovely place is something of an Aladdin’s Cave, with its array of food and drink, sourced both locally and from around the world.
The display cabinets feature a selection of cakes and pastries made by Dominic and his team of patisserie chefs, and these can also now be enjoyed in the new coffee shop. According to Jules, the idea to create the coffee shop was first discussed by the family about four years ago.
However, with Covid having delayed plans, it finally launched in March this year. David’s wife had been very keen for North’s to open a coffee shop in Rothley, but she sadly passed away last year so never saw it come to fruition. However, Jules believes the stylish and cosy coffee shop is a fitting tribute to her mother-in-law. Though small, with only a handful of tables, it has been beautifully finished, with a pink and white colour scheme.
We visited the coffee shop in January and having all been to the Deli and Patisserie many times before we were very excited to experience this new development. On arriving there is a small car park just past the building on the left. The coffee shop was bright, clean but also very cosy and delicately decorated.
For lunch Claire and I ordered Chicken sandwiches which came with salad and delicious homemade coleslaw, I opted for the Club sandwich which was sliced chicken breast, smoked bacon, sliced egg and salad. Nicola decided to go for a savoury tart with dressed salad and homemade coleslaw , the tart was roasted vegetables and was absolutely delicious according to Nicola. We all decided to have a dessert because the ones on display looked so beautiful. I had a fresh fruit tart and Claire had a Bakewell, Nicola had cream filled pastry horns which were sweet and indulgent.
Overall we were very very pleased with our amazing lunch and Claire even took a dessert home for her partner.
Our total bill including tea, a Cappuccino and a soft drink was £49.30 We will be back!!
