More than three years since Leicestershire County officials held a meeting to tell the village that their library had to close, the Parish Council is taking over!
Liz Blackshaw, long time campaigner for the library said
“This is a great day for the village. We made a strong case for keeping the library open and it’s been a long hard and complex fight but I’m so pleased we succeeded. We are really grateful to the Parish Council for all their work and support in this. ”
The Parish Council is actually only a temporary manager while a new charity is set up using the money paid by the County Council when they surrendered the lease on the building.
Library users shouldn’t actually notice any difference. The opening hours and even the staff will stay the same under new arrangements but the future of the library is now secure for many years to come.
The library reopens on Monday 4th February at 2pm with a small celebration.
