As we move into 2023, it will be my fourth year representing Loughborough as your Member of Parliament. What a privilege it has been to champion the causes and issues which are important to residents here.
In the past months, I have spoken in Parliament on issues as wide as the Junction 23 incinerator and illegal immigration which many constituents highlight as priority concerns. I have also been delighted to highlight fantastic work in Loughborough, such as the Loughborough Job Centre.
As well as raising Loughborough issues and schemes in Parliament, it is wonderful to be able to see some of that work in action. For example, I was able to join the Loughborough Street Pastors, listening to passersby who stopped to thank them for their brilliant volunteer work, they are absolutely great. I take this opportunity to thank all of the people who volunteer in Loughborough, particularly around Christmas. If you run a volunteer initiative in Loughborough, please contact me it is a pleasure to be able to meet volunteers in the constituency.
In November, it was Remembrance Day, where I visited two services (one in Loughborough and one in Shepshed, as well as laying wreaths at six locations including Mountsorrel, Barrow, Sileby and Quorn.) Supporting and commemorating veterans who have served our country, I think, is extremely important. I have written to the Minister for Veterans, following on from an event with Help for Hero’s where I heard about their vital work. I have called for two policy changes which would greatly improve the lives of service personal leaving the Armed Forces, and which I hope would improve the lives of veterans in Loughborough. The full letter is available on my Facebook Page.
Supporting businesses is incredibly important to me. I was pleased to see lots of people shopping local on Small Business Saturday, supporting local shops in the run up to Christmas.
Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a happy and prosperous New Year and if you require any assistance in 2023, please do not hesitate to contact me by post, telephone or email.
