Walkers are welcome to park at the Hurt Arms (see picture right) as long as you will be a customer either at the start or the finish of your walk. So, book breakfast, lunch or tea and make a day of it. Or, with the best B & B in the area on offer why not make a weekend of it and perhaps youโ€™ll discover a new walk which you could share with us!

Turn right out of the Hurt Arms walking South for approximately 200 yards, then turn right down Holly Lane just before St Anneโ€™s Church. After another 200 yds go down to the restricted bridleway signpost just past the bridge and turn right past the Birches Woodland sign along the wide track with the river to the right.

walkpic1

Bear right downslope again between the large chunks of stone forming a barrier and keep directon right of the factory buildings, carry on between buildings, through the gap with the โ€˜Shining Cliff Woodsโ€™ sign to the left and the railings to the right. Keep on the main path bearing left upslope to the green signpost.

walkpic2

Bear left, further upslope, through the gate in the wall as the trees end. Continue up the field edge with the fence to the right and take the left, higher path at the fork. Go through the narrow gate ahead, with the war memorial to the right.

Turn sharp left, along the wider track, between the wall and the fence, up to the corner where the wall turns right close to the seats. Bear right, through the trees and the narrow wooden gate and up the path between walls; carry on with the wall to the left, through a wide gate at a marker post.

walkpic4

Bear right, down the short slope to the marker post at the junction, follow the path left to the next junction and go past the chain barrier to a
marker post. Keep straight on passing left of a hut and right of the bunkhouse, downslope to a marker post.

walkpic5

Turn right down this path, cross the stream and go back up to the footbridge. Turn left, further upslope and join the path left at the chain barrier. This track leads downhill back to the marker slope at point 2, turn right and retrace steps back to the parking area and your vehicle.
