Christ Church, Mountsorrel 175th Celebration

Gifted by Miss Sarah Brinton and built in the mid-19th Century, Christ Church in Mountsorrel held its first ever service on 21st July 1844. Since that time, the Church has provided support for generations of parishioners whilst standing proudly overlooking “The Green”.

To mark this 175th Anniversary, a week of Mission both in and for the community has been planned. The week will begin on Sunday 14 July and we hope that many people will come together and join the activities and events.

For Seniors: Sunday 14 July, 4pm.

A special Senior Sunday service followed by cream tea at St Peter’s Church, Mountsorrel.
Open to all over 60’s. A free event—no ticket required but donations towards LOROS are welcome.

For Youth: Tuesday 16 July, 6:30pm. “God’s Not Dead”.

A film about a student arguing the case for God. Can he beat his teacher? Free food and drink for all young people attending.

A free event—no ticket required.

Wednesday 17 July – ‘The Hiding Place’,

Mountsorrel Memorial Centre, 7.30pm (doors open at 7.00pm)
Tickets £10 in advance available online at eventbrite.co.uk, in Church or at The Vicarage (0116 429 9946).

The Oddments Theatre Company brings “The Hiding Place”
the inspirational and heart wrenching testimony of Corrie ten Boom, to life in their latest production.

Corrie, born on April 15, 1892 in Haarlem, Holland, and her Christian family are outraged at the German occupation in the Second World War, and the constant persecution of the Jewish community. Her sister, Betsie, and father, Casper, join Corrie and thousands of others in the unceasing resistance of God’s underground. Their refusal to stand by and watch the Nazi’s horrendous onslaught, and their faith that prevails throughout their subsequent suffering of the Second World War’s darkest terrors, continues to inspire all of those who encounter Corrie’s incredible story. Rated 5 stars by audience members, you will not be disappointed by this passionate story of God’s love and hope in amidst an environment of darkness and brutality.

For Children: Thursday 18 July, 10am –  Superheroes Film & Craft event.

Come to Christ Church to watch The Incredibles and join in with various superhero themed craft activities. A free event—no ticket required.

Thursday 18 July – Grill a Bishop, 8pm. The Waterside Inn

An evening with a Bishop, a Vicar and a Curate for no-holds-barred conversation. You ask the questions.

A free event – no ticket required.

Friday 19 July – Comedy Night, Mountsorrel Working Men’s Club,

7.30pm, (doors open at 7.00pm)
Three top comedians – Paul Gask, Steve Legg & Tony Vino – will be performing in what promises to be
a lively and hilarious show. Free Fish & Chip Supper included with your ticket.
Tickets £10 in advance available online at eventbrite.co.uk, in Church or at The Vicarage (0116 429 9946).

Saturday 20 July – Prayer Walk and Picnic

Meet at 11.30am at Christ Church, to join with us in praying for our village of Mountsorrel. Walking to different areas, praying as we go; and praying when we get there. We will finish our time together with a bring-your-own picnic back at Christ Church. All welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday 21 July, 11am – Celebration Worship Service with Bishop Robert

In addition, there will be litter-picks Monday 15 to Friday 19 July.
Meet at Christ Church 10.00am to tidy up our village. All litter-picking equipment and bags will be provided. Children must be accompanied by adults.
