Restaurant review The Wheatsheaf Inn, Thurcaston
By Linda Rhodes

The original Wheatsheaf Inn was built around 1600 and is ideally situated at the top of the hill and near the village crossroads in Thurcaston, Leicestershire, it was originally two attached cottages and had a thatched roof. The present-day Wheatsheaf has become a much-loved local family pub with regular live music, quiz nights and food theme nights.

Current landlords Grant and Lucy have been proactive in keeping this quintessential country pub active and relevant, including introducing a new menu with the help of TV chef Jordan from JB kitchens in Birstall. Jordan has helped to redesign the menu to include pub classics and some not so classic dishes but all packing serious flavour.
We visited for a lunchtime catch up in August. The pub is cosy and quaint and has a real homely feel. The lunchtime menus had a good selection of light snacks and some main courses. We plumped for Mini-fish and chips, Sausage and mash, scampi and fries.
Overall, we were very pleased, the food was delicious and portion sizes very generous. The ambience of the pub was warm and relaxed and the staff that we met were friendly and attentive. We are definitely planning another visit to try the amazing looking evening menu.
